Welcome to The Empire Monthly Challenge!
You are all welcome to stretch your artist legs. Get out of your comfort zone or artist block, and unleash your full potential!
There are no winners or prizes, it's all about challenging yourself. The deadline is purely to indicate the start of the next challenge, if you need more time to finish up that's okay.
Modifiers are optional rules for the challenge that allow you to push your skills even further!
Environment Challenge - Composition Focus
Architecture
Photography and architecture both have a lot of overlap with environment art, from compositions to making sensible designs and much more! For this challenge we'd like to combine these two and have you replicate either one of these architectural photographs. Neither has a lot of complex shapes, so focus on creating a quick model and nailing the lighting.
Prop Challenge - Hero Modelling
Life Support Backpacks
These cool backpacks come with some interesting shapes, and also the potential to come up with your own materials, maybe add some folds, or make them more sturdy!
Substance Challenge - Material Focus
Autumn Street
Now that we're approaching November the autumn weather has really started showing, leaves sweeping across the pavement, puddles in the asphalt, a material artist's dream! As part of this challenge we'd love you to find your own reference (although you can definitely use the ones shown here). Grab a camera and head out, find some cool puddles, water seeping into the grates in the road or stacks of leaves around the curb.
Substance Challenge - Material Focus
Building
Following up on the environment challenge this time, a lot of buildings are build up out of quite simple shapes. So you could almost just slap a texture with some tessellation on a cube... Well, that's exactly the challenge this time! We'd like you to create a Substance that can generate the building below, bonus points for including the laundry hanging over the railings.
