Welcome to The Empire Monthly Challenge!
You are all welcome to stretch your artist legs. This is a good way to help push yourself either outside of your comfort zone for maximum learning or out of your artist block your dealing with.
I'll be showcasing the strongest pieces on Instagram and these will also link back to your ArtStation.
New to the challenge are the modifiers. These are optional rules for the challenge that allow you to push your skills even further!
Prop Challenge - Hardsurface Modelling
Radio Signal Jammer Console
For this challenge try and take your time to block-out your props and slowly iterate towards the final design. Try and really nail your high-poly models before you move on to a final version!
Prop Challenge - Hero Props
Textures and Silhouette
For this challenge, try to focus on working towards an interesting silhouette with ornaments and detailing while having a pretty simple base flask design.
For the texturing you can go with a style that you like, do you want to go for some stylized goodness or take a more realistic approach? It's up to you!
Substance Challenge - Material Focus
Wood Cobbles
Wooden cobbles found in Copenhagen. The focus of this challenge is to get the age rings feel right. The way to set this up is up to you, creating a generator for this might be something worth looking in to!
Get some of that nice edge wear in there and build layers on top of each other to create a polished and believable material.
Substance Challenge - Material Focus
Abandoned Office Floor
This picture is made in the village of Krasne, part of the Chernobyl exclusion zone. Try and focus on creating a sense of layers, start with the initial planks, follow with dust and dirt, and eventually the larger debris that fell on top. Perhaps creating meshes and grabbing a height map is the way to go, but for a real challenge go for that Substance only!
