WELCOME
Welcome to The Empire Bi-Monthly Challenge! You are all welcome to stretch your artist legs. Get out of your comfort zone or artist block, and unleash your full potential!
Another Bi-Monthly challenge has arrived! This challenge Id like us to think more on how we approach rocks for sculpting. Understanding the language of the type of rock we are wanting to make is half the battle when it comes to this type of asset. Thinking about location leading to Erosion differences and general shape language. Rock on!
DETAILS
There are no winners or prizes, it's all about challenging yourself.
The Deadline is purely to indicate the start of the next challenge, if you need more time to finish up that's okay. This specific challenge is trying out our new Bi-monthly challenge. This should give you more time to explore and really polish what your building.
Your focus should be on shape language, and exploration of rock shapes. Think outside the box and it is highly encouraged to share what your doing or what you want to do. Chances are someone knows how or can point you to a great resource.
JOIN IN!
Join in the fun in #challenge-chat on the Dinusty Empire Discord.
Finished work can go in #finished-work
DEADLINE IS THE END OF MAY
It is important to receive feedback throughout the two month process. Remember we are all trying to grow as artists. Be sure to ask for any feedback. You will be better for it. Also don't miss out on the resource links below to get started fast!
ROCK N’ ROLL // Coastal Rocks
With rocks its really about identifying the language and in a lot of cases the rules around what makes this rock look like this type of rock.
Apply a similar approach to the other rocks and you will find its much easier to understand what your looking at.
ROCK N’ ROLL // Forest Rocks
This rock is in the forest. It also looks like its getting compressed on itself as you can see it curving a bending on the right side. Following the flow and the macro shapes will help get this visual across.
ROCK N’ ROLL // Costal Cliffs
With this rock you will notice that there is a micro directional detail thats visible. Also worth noting id the edges are all not nearly as sharp. They are being softened by the waters constant erosion of the surface.
Inspiration
Im a huge fan of the sculpts from God of War so we will use that as our main Inspirations
