Environment Artists / Level Artists

Introduction

It can be called a number of different names for example, level Artist or world builder. In larger studios environment artists do much less art creation and more propping of a space. Telling stories and working with level designers to realize the space the level designer as blocked out for the level of world. In smaller studios you might do more art creation as a secondary job but the main focus will be building levels with existing assets.

Weapon artists as well as hard surface artists can be one in the same in some companies. I think it goes without saying that they work on weapons, equipment, and vehicles to a degree depending on the studio.

Material / Texture Artists

Introduction

Material artists are mainly building materials within substance designers but also to some extent building from zbrush or a combination of the two. Building materials based off requests from the team. Texture artists I put in the same category mainly because they are also working on texturing assets within the production pipeline using materials made by material artists as well. It should be noted that texture artists as a specialized role is not all that common. Think also of a texture artist as someone who can make brands and logos for fake business in your fictional world.
